Laser Hair Removal
The Lumenisâ„¢ LightSheer Diodeâ„¢ is safe and effective for most skin and hair types. We offer packages of 10 sessions for various areas of the body. Package prices and areas are given upon consultation.
How does it Work? Our hair has three cycles of growth. For laser hair removal to be effective, the hair needs to be in the anagen or “growth†phase when it is attached to the blood supply. The laser is attracted to the pigment or melanin in our hair follicles so travels down the follicle to the blood supply where it impedes the follicle’s ability to regrow. To ensure the best treatment you cannot wax, tweeze or use depilatory creams during your laser hair removal treatment. You do not have to let your hair grow out; in fact, we recommend that you do shave the day of your treatment. Some patients may experience redness, and swelling around the hair follicle of the treated area anywhere from 20 minutes to 24 hours after a treatment. This is a normal part of the treatment process. Makeup and sunscreen can be applied immediately after the treatment to cover up any redness.
What kind of hair can we treat? We can treat almost any area on the body with hair growth. The hair must have a high melanin production, so blonde, white, gray and red hair will not be affected. We can treat most skin types including African American and Hispanic skin types, however, because of darker skin pigmentation, the treatments may take longer to see results.
How long does it take until the hair is gone? We include 10 treatment sessions in the cost of our packages. Lasers will affect hair the most when it is in the anagen or “growth†phase, however not all hairs are in this phase of growth at the same time. Because of this, it will take multiple sessions at 6-10 week intervals to see results. You will see a gradual reduction with each treatment.
Will all my hair be gone? Lumenis™ guarantees up to 85% reduction. This means that you may still have some hairs at the end of your 10 sessions, but it will much easier to maintain. Certain preexisting factors such as hormones, genetics and medications can stimulate hair growth. Until these factors are assessed and treated properly, they can cause hair to grow back even after you’ve had 10 treatments. Our aestheticians can discuss this topic further with a free consultation.
Side Effects and Risks: As with all aesthetic lasers, there are some risks involved in the treatment of any skin type. Burns, hyper and hypo pigmentation, and scarring are some of the more severe side effects. Certain lifestyle factors can make this a higher risk such as sun exposure, tanning beds, spray tanning, medications (such as Retin-A and antibiotics) and recent chemical peels. Our aestheticians will assess any risk factors at the beginning of every treatment as use of the aforementioned risk factors can change with the seasons. These concerns can be discussed further with one of our aestheticians.
