Laser hair removal: the long-term solution

Unwanted hair is a common cosmetic problem for both men and women. But shaving, waxing, tweezing, depilatories, and electrolysis are messy, time-consuming, sometimes painful, and only provide a temporary solution.
Laser hair removal provides a safe, effective, painless, and--in many cases--permanent alternative to removing unsightly and unwanted body hair. Approved by the FDA, laser hair removal treatment is ideal for all skin types including, African American, Asian, and tanned skin.

Common questions about laser hair removal

How does laser hair removal treatment work?

Lasers use thermal energy to heat the area that causes hair growth. This damages the hair follicle and inhibits its ability to regenerate and re-grow. The laser light causes localized damage to the area that causes hair growth on underarms, legs, back, neck, hands, chest, and other hairy areas. Laser precision means there is no damage to the rest of the skin. And, unlike electrolysis, which destroys one hair at a time, laser hair removal treats hundreds of follicles in one pass.

Can anyone have laser hair removal treatment?

Laser hair removal treatment is suitable for most people, but should not be performed if you:

• Are sensitive to bleaching agents
• Have an infection or a history of herpes simplex around the treatment area
• Used Accutane within the past six months
• Have a history of keloid, or raised, scars

Does the treatment hurt?

The laser's cooling tip has a mild anesthetic, which makes the treatment of tender areas relatively painless. Some people report experiencing a mild stinging sensation during treatment. But most tolerate the procedure well. You may ask for a topical anesthetic if you need it. You may also experience a mild sunburn-type sting around the area for a few hours after treatment.

Is laser hair removal safe?

Having tested the industry-leading lasers, our medical staff has chosen the safest and most effective FDA-approved hair removal lasers.

Will I need more than one treatment?

Hair has a three-stage lifecycle--growth, regression and resting. Laser treatments work best on hair that is in the active growth phase. So you will need additional treatments to make sure hairs in the regression and resting stage are removed. We usually schedule additional treatments at 4-8 week intervals. Our staff will help you develop the best and most effective program to suit your needs.

Are there any side effects after treatment?

Immediately after treatment, you may notice your skin becomes mildly puffy and red. This usually disappears within a day or two. A few days after treatment, you may also notice what appears to be hair re-growth. These are hairs being shed as a result of your treatment and will soon disappear. While we recommend that you do not wax or pluck your hairs at this time, it is OK to shave. We also recommend you wash the treated area with a mild soap solution twice a day and apply sunscreen with SPF greater than 15.
